Stay positive….You are born to excel not to ‘just fit in’….

My son is in the final year of his B Tech pursuing a course in computer Science and Engineering. The fourth and final year is most crucial, in the sense that at the start of the session itself major companies start scouting for interns as well as for regular employment through college placement. This is normally the first time the young budding graduates face the interviews for placements. Every student wishes to get a suitable placement as per his calibre, but they all know in their heart that not everyone will be successful through campus interviews (rather a large majority may not get what they are looking for).

Is our education system encouraging or killing creativity/ innovation????

education..

My 17 years old daughter is a student of class 12 (Science student). In Indian subcontinent, the future of child is based on he/ she performs in class 12th (at least a majority of us would believe it to be true). As a parent, I want to empower my child with the power of decision making, have freedom of expression and imagination and most of all I want her to live life not to just survive. She is a go-getter, full of life with creativity and innovation being her passion. As she copes with her class 12 studies we are struggling to strike a right balance between ‘Her life” and her ‘School life’. Gender Equality…. A long wait till the mindset in every home changes….

black 1 - Copy

India, as a nation is obsessed with sons. Every family craves for a son, there will be very few homes where daughters are treated at par. Even the parents, who today publicly declare themselves proud to have only daughters would have sometime visited all possible doctors, temples and God-men in the search of fulfilling their dream of having a son.

Blessed to have you as my first teacher…..

Where you reach, what you achieve in life is generally dependent on the education you gain during the journey (of life). It may not be just the formal education in the classrooms, but the informal education/ values one gains through elders or by just observing nature which will matter in fulfilling life’s purpose. The initial education (generally informal) gained during the first five or six years of life is what provides the foundation for the future. This is where the parents/ elders and the observation power of the child play the most important part.  Continue reading “Blessed to have you as my first teacher….. “

My day used to start with the News paper ….

I picked up the habit of reading Newspapers very young. Way back, during the school days, Newspaper was the first thing I rushed for immediately on reaching back home from school. Those days my favourite used to be the last page because it carried all the sports news and thereafter if I had time and inclination, the first page got a cursory glance just to see the headlines which normally did not make much sense to me.  Continue reading “My day used to start with the News paper …. “

Do you have it in you…Courage, confidence, choice….

success 1

Have a dream, follow it with passion, setbacks will be there but never give up, succeed you will. This is ‘one template fit all’ formula most motivational speakers have for most startups / new entrants. If it was all just this easy then why does one see so many failures around. For every one success story there will be many failures to read about. Well, passion, hard work are all the necessary ingredients of a success story and most people apparently have them in good amount.  Why do they still fail to achieve the desired goals?

Courage is the main virtue, most people lack. While they may have the courage to dream, most do not have enough courage to express, courage to go against the established norms, courage to take risks, courage to learn & unlearn, courage to face failures, overcome fears and the courage to get up again. Courage to own a failure, to accept mistakes, going all over again to find the right solution and moving ahead matters most in the run up to success. If you don’t have the courage to jump into the pool you will never learn swimming and just keep dreaming about it.

From courage flows ‘Self Confidence’, the most important ingredient required to break a new path. Confidence comes through education, learning from the books, contemporaries, competitors and from your own mistakes. Once you have learnt, acquired the right skills and the right company, you will move ahead with confidence ready to take risks and face any obstacle.

It’s the combination of courage and confidence which gives the power to make choices. To make a choice between the perceived right and wrong, to make the choice of taking or not taking risks. Most important of all, confidence helps you in making the choice to follow your dream when whole world appears to be against it.
